Uber, the transportation and tech start up company based out of San Francisco, California United states is facing backlash from European countries again-the latest being UK with TFL and second being Spain & Germany.

The Uber case was brought up in Barcelona by professional taxi drivers in Spain who argued that the startup had an unfair advantage because drivers on its UberPop service didn’t have the taxi licenses required by the city of Barcelona.

A Spanish court subsequently referred the case to the Top European court of justice which legally doesn’t deal with labour issues but dragged Uber in on the grounds that Uber has to regard its drivers as employees hence Uber must be regulated as a transportation company – and not a tech firm as insisted by the startup.

This could subject the startup that is still bleeding losses in millions of dollars to major overhead setbacks and stricter requirements that could drag the brand to its knees.

In the ruling which cannot be appealed, Uber had said in a statement that the ruling would not change things in most EU countries they operated in, however in the UK the TFL is clamping down on Uber amidst the court rulings and protests by blackcab owners saying the American company is providing jobs for immigrants whilst making them run out of business .
