The Nigerian Stock exchange NSE held its sectorial dinner at eko hotel yesterday tagged “CEO DINNER OIL & GAS SECTOR”.This quarterly dinner which had been going on since 2012 had major stakeholders in the industry in attendance.An opening speech was delivered by the CEO of Nigerian stock exchange Mr Oscar Oyema;highlighting the reasons why prospective companies should enlist with the NSE to raise funds in the capital and benefits they stand to gain by listing.
ENGR. Andrew Yakubu the Group managing director of NNPC gave a lecture on the role of Government in fast-tracking access to funds in the capital market through user friendly policies.Mr Kayode Akinkungbe of First Bank Capitals further reteriorated that taking the energy sector in Nigeria as a case study the new power companies cannot survive on bank financing alone except with the influence of a larger pool of finance which is the stock exchange.
This dinner was put together as a strategy to reinforce the economy by empowering the stakeholders and re-establishing confidence in the general public who are the shareholders (after the 2008 stock market meltdown).Earlier this year the CEO healthcare sectorial dinner was held at federal palace hotel and had the honourable minister of health or of Prof.Onyebuchi Chukwu in attendance who emphasized how the federal Government plans to make policies that would support the National health insurance scheme (NHIS).Key note speaker was the CEO of FIDSON pharmaceuticals.The Oil and gas sectorial dinner was sponsored by OandO plc,FBN capital,Eterna & Seplat.Seplat benefited from listing in the Nigerian stock exchange in 2006 and was able to raise about $500M as start up capital in before going ahead to acquire platform petroleum & shebah exploration.
