excellence. The event, which was titled

In his speech, ADVAN President, Mr. Kola
Oyeyemi, informed the audience that
ADVAN awards had evolved over the years
in response to new developments in
marketing theory and practices and the
need to reflect the growth and appreciation
of the critical role of marketing as the vital
source of value creation for business.
He charged integrated Marketing
Communication practitioners to embrace
the reality of the place of digital marketing
as the current reality, as almost everything
has collapsed into one which is the new
media. Oyeyemi gave instances to buttress
his point as the collapsing of night
markets, the emergence of online
marketing, digital billboards, online
platforms of newspapers, Public Relations
Advertising, as mobile technology (phone)
has collapsed everything into itself.
Speaking further, he informed the gathering
that Internet accessibility has led phone
owners to reach their phone 150 times
every day, either by using Facebook,
checking time, email, Watsapp, Twitter etc.
He concluded that other industries were
converging on the Internet.
For the media industry, whose association,
Brand Journalists Association of Nigeria
(BJAN), were newly included into the award
category, the gold was won by BJAN
President, Goddy Ofose, was followed by
the first runner-up, Adedeji Ademigbuyi, of
The Nation Newspaper and 2nd runner-up
Brand Intelligence reporter in the Guardian,
Abiodun Obisesan.
ADVAN was established in 1992, an
umbrella association for all advertisers

major advertising) in Nigeria. It provides an
organised forum for advertisers to express
their views and influence developmental
changes in the Nigerian marketing
communications scene.
